A still from Body (2015)

27 October 2015

Polish film editor Jacek Drosio has been honoured by a European Film Academy prize for his work on Małgorzata Szumowska’s recent independent success Body.

Mr Drosio was one of six initial prize winners announced by the Academy today ahead of the 28th edition of the European Film Awards to be held in Berlin on 12 December. As is traditional, the early announcement pertains to outstanding technical work. Winners were also announced in the fields of cinematography, production and costume design, composition and sound recording.

Body is the darkly comic tale of a bereaved prosecutor, his anorexic daughter and her therapist — who may or may not be able to communicate with the dead.

In their announcement the awards jury – composed of highly-regarded production professionals from around Europe — praised Mr Drosio’s work on Body as an “outstanding example of playful precision,” contributing to the film’s “shining humour” and “splendid narration”.

Body is the fifth feature from Małgorzata Szumowska, widely regarded as one of Poland’s foremost young directors. It won a Silver Bear for Best Director at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival and was screened this month as part of the BFI London Film Festival. Jacek Drosio has worked as editor on all of Szumovska’s films to date.
