First tech park opens in Georgia

Georgia has opened its first tech park, providing the capital, Tbilisi, with a dedicated site for the development of innovation and technology.

The Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili attended the opening ceremony earlier this week at the site, located in the Tbilisi suburb of Okrokana, together with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Dimitry Kumsishvili.

“This is a space for unique possibilities, as well as the formation of future professions and platforms for expanding the innovation market,” Kvirikashvili said of the site, which was built by the Innovations and Technologies agency LEPL. “It will play a special role in terms of business development, the creation of new business and companies as well as new jobs.”

The park’s founders intend that it be used principally for the development of small and medium-sized businesses, while it also provides opportunities for international companies wishing to open offices in Georgia.

A business incubator featuring training centres, a conference hall and a co-working centre, will be in operation at the park. Also on offer for companies wishing to establish themselves at the tech park will be offices, laboratories and recreational space.
