Online database of victims of USSR political repression launched

Russian charitable foundation Reach Out yesterday launched Open List, a Wikipedia-style online database of victims of political repression during the Soviet era (1917 — 1991).

The project’s organisers have used information on “victims of political terror in the USSR” gathered by Russian historical and civil rights society Memorial as the foundation for the database, supplementing this data with material from other sources.

Anyone who wishes to add information about loved ones who suffered repression during this period is welcome to participate, and can supplement and clarify existing data or add new information by registering on the site openlist.wiki.

“With the Open List database we would like to bring together the largest number of known names and put them in an open wiki-format, with personal data verified by official sources (name, surname, date and reason for arrest, etc.) and free space for the publication of biographies and memoirs,” say the creators of Open List.
