Zaha Hadid Architects reveal plans for new Prague business district

Zaha Hadid Architects have unveiled their plans for a new central business district in the Czech capital, Prague.

The plans will see the London-based firm, who won a competition in 2014 to complete the project, redevelop a 22,000 square metre brownfield site adjacent to the city’s Masaryk train station. Made up of a series of curved mid-rise structures together with open public spaces, the mixed-use development will link together Prague’s Districts 1, 3 and 8.

The design for the business district integrates Prague’s transport networks, creating a new entry point to the Czech capital from the city’s Václav Havel Airport. A public square is expected to span the railway lines, while a series of plazas will also link the bus terminus and boulevard to the development.

“We have developed an urbanism for the site which draws inspiration from our analysis of the city and the site’s dynamic circulation networks,” explained ZHA project architect Craig Kiner.

Last month Zaha Hadid Architects won an international contest to design a building for Moscow’s Skolkovo Innovation Centre, the first major project the firm has secured since the death of its founder in March.
