Ukrainian artist Boris Mikhailov will be in conversation with curator Simon Baker on 17 June at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London.

Mikhailov is one of the most celebrated artists from the former Soviet Union, best known for challenging and provocative photographs that have come to embody post-Soviet trash aesthetics. Working since the mid-1960s, his work came to the fore in the 90s with Case History, a series which revealed the devastating poverty in his hometown of Kharkiv after the demise of the Soviet Union.

Simon Baker is Tate’s first Curator of Photography. Since his appointment in 2009 he has worked on acquisitions displays of the permanent collection and exhibitions at Tate galleries across the UK, and worked on various shows including Performing for the Camera currently on at the Tate Modern.

The event will take place at the ICA at 12pm on Friday 17 June. More information can be found on the ICA website.
