New York-based digital media and broadcasting company Vice Media has bought a controlling stake in art and culture magazine Garage, with plans to launch a digital channel based on the publication’s brand.

Founded in 2011 by Dasha Zhukova, who is the magazine’s editor-in-chief and wife of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, under Vice Media Garage will increase its online presence, including launching a new digital channel and new local editions, as well as gaining an expanded editorial team.

Garage will bring an arsenal of creative ideas and people to Vice so we are thrilled to help Dasha grow Garage‘s digital presence and bring their ideas and collaborations to new audiences around the globe,” said Tom Punch, Vice Media’s global executive creative director, about the deal, the terms of which have not been disclosed.

“Through Garage’s partnership with Vice, we hope to broaden the lens through which our audiences are exposed to art, architecture fashion and design,” Ms Zhukova stated.

Ms Zhukova was previously editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Pop and a founding partner of Artsy, an online art sales site. Together with her husband she owns an extensive art collection. Garage magazine takes its name from Moscow’s Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (formerly the Garage Centre of Contemporary Art).
