The Angry Bat, a Maribor-based independent publisher founded by Matej Sitar has launched the first prize dedicated to photo books in Slovenia.

The theme for the inaugural prize is “boundaries, borders and limits”, and may include psychological and emotional interpretations of the topic.

The winner will be awarded with 2000 EUR, and shortlisted works will appear in one of the biggest exhibitions of contemporary photo books in Slovenia.

Eligible photo books should have been published between the 1 January 2013 and 31 July 2016.

Entries will be judged by an international jury industry figures including photo book curator, Michael Kollmann, artist and photo book maker Tanja Lazetić, and photographer and co-founder of the SHILO group, Sergiy Lebedynskyy.

The award will coincide with the first Festival of Photography Maribor and with the exhibition Lessons from 1991: the rise of nationalism through the eyes of photojournalists.
