Check out I’ve seen rock and roll, the new book and exhibition by prominent Russian photographer Igor Moukhin, depicting the life of iconic musicians of the perestroika period.

St Petersburg-based internet newspaper Paper has published a selection of the photos from the book and exhibition, which can be viewed here. Many familiar faces make an appearance, including Viktor Tsoi, Alla Pugacheva and Boris Grebenshchikov.

Perestroika refers to the period of modernisation and democratisation in the USSR from the mid-1980s. The time was characterised by the flourishing of art and increased creative freedom.

Photos from I’ve seen rock and roll are also on show at the Rosfoto exhibition space in St Petersburg until 28 August. More information can be found here.
