Kiev to host Eurovision 2017

Kiev has been selected to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, bringing the competition to the Ukrainian capital for the second time.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU) announced today that the contest will take place at the Kiev International Exhibition Centre, no doubt causing disappointment in the other finalist cities of Odessa and Dnipro.

“Kyiv [as the Ukrainian capital is also known] presented an excellent case and we are looking forward to working together to create the most electrifying show yet next May,” said Jon Ola Sand, the EBU’s Executive Supervisor for the contest, in a statement on the contest’s official website.

Eurovision 2017 will take place in Ukraine following the victory of the country’s representative, Jamala, in the 2016 contest with the song 1944.

Kiev previously hosted the show in 2005. It also hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 and 2013.
