Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan to star in Russian horror film sequel

31 October 2016

The Hollywood action stars will feature in Viy 2: The Journey to China, RIA announced yesterday after the actors were pictured on set last week.

The film, which is currently being filmed on location in China, is a sequel to Viy (released internationally as Forbidden Empire), a 2014 film by director Oleg Stepchenko, which is loosely based on the Nikolay Gogol’s short story and the eponymous Soviet 1967 film.

Though it was announced last year that the film, the first major co-production between Russia and China, would be made in collaboration with Jackie Chan’s JCE Movies, this is the first news of Chan and Schwarzenegger, neither of whom appear in the trailer, starring in the film. They will appear alongside the film’s lead Jason Flemyng, best known for Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998).

The film is set to be released in early 2017.
