This Thursday evening Calvert 22 will host an evening of art, fashion and music to celebrate the launch of the latest collaboration between London-based design project Cassiopeia and Kazakh artist Aza Shadenova.

The evening will feature a presentation of bespoke silk scarves designed by Aza for Cassiopeia, along with a mini exhibition of works from Aza’s new series Mothers and Daughters, exploring her heritage, adopted country and life as an immigrant.

Guests can also enjoy an exclusive set from Aza and Manflu — the bandmates are getting together for one night only to give a special performance of Soviet covers.

You won’t go hungry, as Mince & Dough will be providing a sumptuous selection of Kazakh treats, to be washed down with local birch sap-infused Laika beer, which is brewed in London but inspired by the north.

Set up by Irina Kikina and Masha Gribova from Moscow, Cassiopeia is a London-based design project that brings together artists from a variety of creative and cultural backgrounds to produce works in art, fashion, photography, music and film. Aza Shadenova is Kazakh artist who was born in Uzbekistan and raised in Kyrgyzstan before moving to the UK. She was one of the few young artists featured in the Central Asian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013).

The Cassiopeia Project x Aza Shadenova collection launch will take place at Calvert 22 in Shoreditch on Thursday 8 December from 7 – 10pm. Entrance is free but RSVP is essential.
