Russian snow festival ruined… by too much snow

16 January 2017

It turns out you can have too much of a good thing. The organisers of a festival in honour of World Snow Day on the far eastern Russian island of Sakhalin found this out when they were forced to cancel the snowy celebration due to heavy snowfall.

“Events for All-Russia snow day are being transferred to next weekend due to poor weather conditions,” the Sakhalin Sports Ministry posted on their website. The festival had been due to include skiing and snowing contests, as well as classes for both adults and children.

World Snow Day is part of the International Ski Federation’s “Bring Children to the Snow” campaign. This year 35 countries are taking part, with over 500 events taking place across the world.
