This Belarusian designer lets you become a masterpiece while you sleep

Belarusian graphic designer Lesha Limonov’s “Masterpieces Never Sleep!” project allows your nighttime self to step inside the frame and live your dreams through the eyes of iconic figures from a range of historic paintings.

His entry for the 2017 International Rijksstudio Award sees Limonov “cut out” the eyes from artistic masterpieces, transferring them onto sleep masks. A playful take on the notion that the characters in paintings stay awake after museums empty of visitors, the eye masks allow you to look out into the darkness while you slumber.

“By trying on the mask with painting characters’ eyes, you can be sure that you’ll see true masterpieces in your dream! And your dream will be under protection, because painting heroes stay awake guarding your rest,” says the designer.

Masterpieces featured in the project include Vincent van Gogh’s Self-portrait (1887) and Rembrandt’s The Night Watch (1642).

The International Rijksstudio Award invites artists to create their own masterpieces inspired by the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
