British photographer wounded in Ukraine conflict

British photographer Christopher Nunn sustained injuries last week during the shelling of the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka.

According to the ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) press centre, on 2 February Nunn was close to a window when intense mortar shelling occurred, leaving him wounded as a result of flying shrapnel. He received numerous shrapnel wounds to the face, penetrating trauma to the left eye and injury to his right eyelid, in addition to a non-penetrating injury to the chest. Having been evacuated to the No.66 military hospital and transferred to Mechnikova hospital in the city of Dnipro, Nunn is currently undergoing treatment to save his sight.

Nunn has covered the conflict in eastern Ukraine for some time, working both to portray the military aspects of the conflict and civilian life. In 2015, he was one of the finalists for UK/raine, an open competition for emerging artists from the UK and Ukraine aged 18-35.
