Meet the Georgian ballet dancer tapping into the trend for wooden accessories

21 February 2017

David Chanishvili has a pretty intense job as a dancer for the Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet. Now he’s turned his hand to craft and fashion, launching a line of handcrafted wooden bows and bowties.

His startup company Mister Two products, created together with friend Papuna Nutsubidze, creates unique designs using nutwood and mahogany, along with boxwood and beechwood. Launched on 31 December using only the friends’ personal funds and selling via social media, the products have received a warm reception and sales have far exceeded expectations, with the accessories even donned by a number of local celebrities!

Bringing unique wooden accessories to Georgia looks set to be a sustainable enterprise — will the ballet dancer soon be hanging up his leotard in favour of pursuing the bowtie business full time?
