Calvert 22 Foundation and State Hermitage Museum present museology conference in London

Starting this Friday, Calvert 22 Foundation in partnership with St Peterburg’s State Hermitage Museum will present The Museum After the Revolution, a two-day conference in London dedicated to museums and their collections from 1917 to today.

Taking the Hermitage and its transformation from imperial to state property during the political shifts of 1917 as its starting point, the conference will address the impact of the Revolution on museum collections across the former Soviet territory.

Join us from 5pm at Calvert 22 Space on Friday 28 April for a welcome address by the director of the State Hermitage Museum, Professor Mikhail Piotrovsky, followed by keynote speech delivered by Professor of Russian, Catriona Kelly, from Oxford University, and a drinks reception.

The second part of conference, from 9am – 5:30pm on Saturday 29 April, will include panel discussions on museology and art collections hosted at Rich Mix. Speakers will include Professor Mikhail Piotrovsky, Professor Catriona Kelly, the head of the Hermitage 20/21 collection Dimitri Ozerkov, director of UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies Jan Kubic and Curator of Paris’s Centre Georges Pompidou Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov, among others.

To accompany the conference, a pop-up exhibition of historical photographs taken from the archives of the State Hermitage Museum will be on display at Calvert 22 Space Friday 28 – Sunday 30 April, 12pm – 6pm.
