Postponed futures: GRAD offers an alternative look at the Ukrainian avant-garde

Postponed Futures, an exhibition exploring the 20th century Ukrainian avant-garde through the lens of contemporary Ukrainian art, opens today at London’s Gallery for Russian Arts and Design (GRAD).

Curated by Kiev-based artist Nikita Kadan and presented in collaboration with Waterside Contemporary, Postponed Futures offers an alternative take on the practices of the Ukrainian avant-garde through placing historical works in dialogue with contemporary pieces of art.

Among the 20th century pieces displayed are works by masters of the avant-garde Oleksandr Bohomazov, Vasyl Yermilov, Maria Sinyakova and Oleksandr Khvostenko-Khvostov, which will be showcased together with a number of contemporary works: collages by Lada Nakonechna, a film by Mykola Ridnyi and a sculpture by curator Nikita Kadan, inspired by Vasyl Yermilov’s Monument to Three Revolutions.
