Art as labour: join the design summer school set in Europe’s largest art park

Applications are now open for the Global Practice Unit international summer school, a programme for young architects and artists set in the Nikola-Lenivets Art Park, home of the Archstoyanie Land Art Festival and located 200km from Moscow on the banks of the river Ugra.

This year’s theme — Art as Labour — invites participants to consider the relationship between creative practice and labour within the context of ever increasing automation and altered perceptions of the very notion of labour, with an additional emphasis on recent movements in Russian art and architecture that reference the country’s rural past to address a loss of communal identity.

As well as an architectural intervention in the park, students will produce a publication and present ideas at symposiums in Nikola-Lenivets and Moscow.

Art as Labour is curated by Professor Robert Mull, Founder of the Global Practice Unit, Head of Architecture at the University of Brighton and co-founder of MArch. Thomas Randall-Page — Head of the Building Works Unit — and Xenia Adjoubei — architect, Head of International Projects at the Moscow Architecture School — will lead the course.
