Slovenia wins first ever Eurovision Choir of the Year

24 July 2017

On Saturday, Slovenia took home the winner’s trophy at the first Eurovision Choir of the Year competition.

Slovenia’s Carmet Manet choir won the votes of the judges with their performance of three Slovenian-language songs: Ta na solbici, Adrca and Aj, zelena je vsa gora. The brief for choirs states that, while the songs chosen could be of any genre, the performance “should in part reflect national or regional character in some way”.

Taking place in Riga, the inaugural competition saw Wales win second place, with Latvia coming in third.
