New photography collective Revolv questions the notion of the archive in London exhibition

Next week Revolv Collective brings Archives as Medium to east London’s Four Corners Gallery, an exhibition questioning the very concept of the archive through photography, film and sculpture. Parallel to the exhibition, Revolv will also host a zine workshop and artist talks with guest collectives and speakers.

Archives as Medium is the first exhibition by Revolv Collective, a new collective of Masters’ photography students and alumni from the University of Portsmouth made up of Bulgarian-born UK-based photographers Krasimira Butseva, Vera Hadzhiyska and Lina Ivanova, along with British photographer Laura Gowing. Through their work, the exhibition will interrogate and challenge the purpose and nature of the archive.

Running alongside the exhibition will be a collaborative zine workshop on 8 September, where visitors are invited to observe the collaborative making of a zine by professionals from Chrono Collective, Pupil Sphere and London Alternative Photography Collective. On 9 September, a number of artist talks will address issues such as curation, funding applications and approaching galleries, with guest speakers Carole Evans, co-founder of Portrait Salon; Phil Serfaty, founder of Black Tower Projects; and award-winning artists Felicity Hammond and Russell Squires leading talks and participating in a panel discussion.
