Forget work passes and scan your face to enter this Romanian office block

The era of swiping a work ID at reception upon arrival is coming to an end for some office workers in the western Romanian city of Timișoara.

Fingerprint scanning and facial recognition technology will be delivered by December, say Romanian development company Werk Property Group. The Vox Technology Park complex where Werk are based is on its way to becoming the first office block in Romania to use workers’ biometric data to give them access to the building.

The project currently consists of two buildings with a total area of 26,000 square metres, and features various “green” initiatives like charging stations for electric cars. The biometric recognition technology is said to be safer than cards or passwords which can be stolen. Unless you have an identical twin, in which case you might be able to take turns going to work.
