An iconic neo-classical style building home to the Tbilisi State Circus has been put up for sale, with bids for the building and surrounding territory to start at $18m.

The Tbilisi State Circus, which is a site of cultural heritage, was designed by the prominent Soviet architects Stepan Satunts and Nikolay Neprintsev and built in 1939. The building sits on a hill which provides a 360-degree view of the the city and overlooks Heroes’ Square, Tbilisi’s main transport junction. Spanning 4,750 m2 of space spread over four floors and a basement, the complex comes complete with an adjoining building supporting “facilities for circus operation”, Colliers International Georgia, the real estate agency advertising the sale, says.

But the sale of the monumental building could spell the end for its life as a circus venue, with offices, a hotel, an event hall and other leisure facilities under consideration for the site’s future.
