Women are being asked to speak out about sexual violence as part of a one-day live stream on one of Russia’s biggest social networks.

Users will be able share their experiences anonymously using the OK Live app during the event on 25 November.

Survivors can join in the stream by using the hashtag #IAmAgainstViolence (#япротивнасилия). Special filters will hide users’ identities and voices.

The event is part of an annual global campaign by UN Women to end gender-based violence and abuse.

“Everyone, regardless of who they are, has the right to a life free of violence,” said Alia El-Yasser, UN Women’s Deputy Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, in a statement.

“The international #MeToo movement revealed the hideous face of violence and the extent of the problem. As a virtual initiative, it proved how important it is to unite our voices against violence. We hope that our cooperation with OK Live will support this growing momentum and motivate people to contribute to the fight against gender-based violence.”
