Soft Power: mixing Polish folk dance and UK electronica

The son of Polish immigrants, UK electronic artist Felicita grew up taking traditional folk dance lessons. Now he is fusing his love of avant-guarde music with an exploration of his Polish roots as part of a new project: Soft Power.

Working with the Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble and choreographer Michaił Zubkow, Felicita deconstructed traditional Polish dances, combining the movements with contemporary electronica composed specifically for the project.

A single performance at London’s Barbican on 8 December marked the first half of the project, with the next event already scheduled for the theatre’s 2018/2019 season. The second half will see the involvement of contemporary Polish composers including Wojciech Kilar.
