Online streaming giant Netflix is holding open auditions for its first original Polish-language series.

Shooting for the eight-episode series is set to start in city of Wrocław in February, with a worldwide premiere already scheduled for later this year.

Director Agnieszka Holland, who previously worked with Netflix on their flagship show House of Cards, will helm the Cold War thriller.

Set in 2002, the series will explore an alternative history where Poland remains under Soviet influence. The plot will follow a student and a disgraced police investigator who uncover a conspiracy that has kept the Iron Curtain standing.

Netflix has already produced several foreign-language series, including shows in Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and German. Its latest move follows the launch of a special Polish-language service in 2016, which gave a platform to Polish-dubbed versions of other Netflix programmes, as well as locally-produced Polish shows.
