Experimental Survey: discovering the best of Balkan post-industrial sound

With almost four hours of dark listening, Balkan Experimental Survey encompasses the best of post-industrial sound from across south-eastern Europe.

The album includes 32 tracks from artists spanning Greece, Romania, Turkey, Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania, Slovenia and Macedonia. Each introduces their vision of the post-industrial scene, merging with the region’s rich culture and identity.

The release is the brainchild of the Unexplained Sounds Group, an Italian-based label uncovering regional sounds from local music scenes ignored by the mainstream.

“The Balkan compilation is part of a wider project, launched four years ago with the Unexplained Sounds Group label and network,” Raffaele Pezzella told The Calvert Journal. “This network was born to highlight experimental and alternative music from specific countries, especially the ones whose music is underrated or much less known.”

The group has already released compilations from Latin America, Iran and Russia, and is now gearing up to create a new album with Lebanese artists.
