The winners of one of Russia’s most prestigious contemporary art prizes have been announced at a special ceremony in Moscow.

Saransk-born artist Vladimir Logutov was named Artist of the Year for his exhibition Next Level at the Winzavod art centre in the Russian capital. Project of the Year, meanwhile, went to the IV Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art, curated by João Ribas under the theme “New Literacy”.

Coming Home — a special project tracing 50 years of history within the walls of a Tsarist-era home in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod — was named Regional Project of the Year, while Maria Kramar and Karen Sarkisov both scooped Curator of the Year for their work on Hosting the Inhuman at the V-A-C Foundation.

Two artists caught the judges’ eye in the New Generation Category. Kirill Savchenkov won the section outright with his sci-fi inspired project, Office of Sensitive Activities / Applications Group, organised by the V-A-C Foundation together with the Moscow Museum of Modern art.

Ilya Fedotov-Fedorov was also singled out for a special prize awarded in collaboration with the French Embassy. His work, Survival Instinct — shown as part of the VII Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art — won him a three-month placement at Paris’ Cité Internationale des Arts.

All of the works, including shortlisted projects, are on show as part of an digital exhibition, as well as at the Russian State Library in Moscow. To see the full works online, click here.
