Zangezur: listen to this edgy mix of 1990s industrial sound and an Armenian heritage

Lusia Kazaryan-Topchyan once took to stages across Russia as a member of iconic post-punk band Fanny Kaplan. Now, the Siberian-born artist is embracing a new-found creative freedom as a solo act, releasing her debut electronic album under the name Margenrot.

The project is deeply personal, pulling on Kazaryan-Topchyan’s Armenian roots to create an album mixing dark, 1990s-style industrial sounds with a distinctly Caucasian edge.

Named after a historic Armenia province, the album represents an ongoing search for a new musical style and a new take on the musician’s heritage.
