Point of view: an exclusive Moscow photo album by The xx

Last week, British band The xx played their first-ever concert in Russia, at Moscow's Crocus City Hall. But when they weren't rehearsing or doing soundchecks, how did the Mercury Prize-winning trio spend their time in the capital? In images shot exclusively for The Calvert Journal on the disposable camera we provided them with, the group captured their stay in Moscow, taking photographs from up high and down below. The shots capture them on a mini tour of the city with band member Jamie Smith surveying the walls of the Kremlin and wandering through the central shopping district, and Romy Madley Croft looking out onto one of Stalin's Seven Sisters, a group of imposing skyscrapers that dominate the skyline. There's a visit to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour where Pussy Riot performed their "punk prayer" last year. And the group also ventured underground to travel on the Art Deco-era, gilt-trimmed Moscow metro. The results are as atmospheric as their music.
