Shooting the breeze: a photographer wanders the streets of Izhevsk

Denis Ryabov has been photographing his friends and personal world since 2009. Although based in St Petersburg, the 23-year-old returned to his native Izhevsk for a cousin's wedding in September when he shot a series of images in the city in the western Urals. His photos of the Izhevsk's embankment, its streets and architecture are imbued with a desolate beauty while shots of the wedding and his friends add some warmth. "I rarely visit Izhevsk and each time the city feels so different. I feel like a guest," he says. "There are old friends with whom I catch up with and there are those who are my age who already have cars, families and kids. Their lives are so different to mine."
