Twenty five weeks of winter: a visual essay on longing and desire
Assembling seemingly unrelated images to create a narrative is something that many contemporary photographers have tried, but only rarely do they succeed. Ekaterina Anokhina, however, with only 36 very different images has created a visual poem that explores longing and desire, and the sense of absence and agony of an ended relationship. “I was hoping that I would be able to make something so deeply personal, but also something the viewer can read and relate to,” Anokhina has said. 25 Weeks of Winter is a melange of black and white and colour, interior shots, landscapes, abstract and very specific photographs that succinctly explore and evoke personal emotions and experiences. First presented as a self-published limited edition of 50 copies at Vienna Photobook Festival in summer 2013, the book was published in September 2013 by Peperoni. Anokhina, 30, who is from Moscow, recently graduated from the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia.
