The road trip: scenes from a wild ride across Iceland

Travel has always been at the heart of the work of Rafal Milach, a documentary photographer who has spent over ten years documenting different issues in Russian-speaking countries and Central and Eastern Europe. For his most recent series, In the Car with R, which is currently on show at the new space belonging to St Petersburg’s FotoDepartment, Milach documents a road trip around Iceland’s ring road Route 1, a common summer tradition for many Icelanders that's colloquially known as “doing the ring”. This is everyday life at the geographical extremes.
