Stargazing: photographing the scientists who have dedicated their lives to space research

In 2010, photojournalist Anna Sergeeva travelled to Kazakhstan to visit the Tien Shan Highland Research Station, known to the scientists who work there simply as “Space Station”. Located in a picturesque valley in Almaty province, the station is home to a community of scientists driven by a shared passion for space research. Fascinated by the group of scientists who have dedicated their lives to their work, Sergeeva, who lives in Moscow, has been photographing the space station and its employees on and off for the past three years. “The station represents a unique place for me,” says Sergeeva. “The project is not only about science but about people who chose not to lead regular lives in society, not to pursue fame, but to live for their ideals and the chance to be closer to the stars every day.”
