Manizha Not Slav Enough
Russian-Tajik singer and musician Manizha is one of the leading voices exploring the topics of identity, community, and creativity of people from Central Asia. The video references the visual cues and stereotypes associated with immigrants from Tajikistan: national costumes combined with sportswear and knock-off luxury fashion, markets, and taxis. At the same time, it scrutinises the complexity of immigrant identity: not belonging either in Russia, or the country you left behind. Manizha gives a new generation the chance to discover not only pride in their heritage, but also pride in being an immigrant.
