Enter the dreamy cottage inspired by a ship’s cabin | Concrete Ideas

Situated not far from the Vranov Dam, this small wooden cottage in the Czech Republic uses sunburned larch to host a quiet getaway spot inspired by the ships that sail the nearby Thaya river.

Architects Prodesi/Domesi built the holiday home on the foundations of what was the owner’s grandfather’s small summer cottage. As a result, every available space has been utilised either for storage, or integrated sitting areas, just like inside a ship’s cabin. Yet this seacraft-inspired home also seeks to integrate into the surrounding forest, rather than stand high among the waves.

“Our goal was to design a building that humbly integrates into the green slope above the water with mostly modest old cottages,” says the architect Klára Vratislavová.

In order to keep the home small, the designers also cut off the roof in several sections, fitting two bedrooms and a dressing room underneath.
